Hi, I'm originally from California. I'm obsessed with many tv shows, book series, psychology, mental health awareness, weed, tattoos, and amazing music. I go to Harvard, but I'm poor, kind of a slacker, and definitely a stoner; so i don't really fit any of the stereotypes about Ivy League students. But basically I'm awesome, love almost everyone on tumblr, and would love to talk to you!

Omg, I just got that swimsuit in the mail today too, except mine is red, but isn’t it the best?

I don’t give a shit if Dan’s managing skills were terrible, I don’t care if he was difficult to work with, if you thought he wasn’t fit as a showrunner you should have still given him a major role in the creative process of the show. Basically Sony and NBC have no intention of letting Dan be…
DAN HARMON IS COMMUNITY
I’m crying again. Dammit Sony!
I’ve spent the last week showing my family Community. They love it. Not as much as I do, but they do. And I didn’t watch the finale last night so that I could watch it with them today. Because of that I didn’t go on Tumblr for the last day. I come on tonight and the first thing I see is a post about the loss of Dan Harmon. I sat shocked and then I started to tell my family about the travesty. While explaining, I broke down into tears. I really tried to stop myself. It’s ridiculous. It’s just a show. But it’s my everything. I love Dan, how do people not understand that getting rid of him is like getting rid of Joel or Danny. Just because people aren’t visible on the show, doesn’t mean that they aren’t just as important as the actors. In fact, if I truly had to choose Dan would be the last person I replace after every actor, writer, and producer was gone. Because he is the soul of the show. His vision is the show. period.
I can’t stand these posts about how it really isn’t that bad for the show. Are you fucking kidding me? Do you not have any integrity or soul? I trust in Dan. He is the reason I love the show. I love the actors improve and the rest of the writing, but without the underlying plot and soul of Community, the show is nothing compared to what it is now.
Now I am faced with a terrible decision. To support Dan or to continue to watch my show. Because this is exactly what is wrong with television today and I do not want to support it. They have continued to try and destroy Community with the hiatus and now the dreaded shortened season. Now this. The companies controlling television don’t care about quality or the viewers, just the profits. Community has only managed to stay so amazing, because Dan refused to modify his vision. And now they have managed to destroy that last obstacle.
Community is what I turn to when I begin to sink into depression again. I put on Home Economics and as soon as Abed begins to talk about lucky charms and cartoons, I feel fine again. But now I find myself watching it and feeling like my world is tumbling down.
Kids:
A few hours ago, I landed in Los Angeles, turned on my phone, and confirmed what you already know. Sony Pictures Television is replacing me as showrunner on Community, with two seasoned fellows that I’m sure are quite nice - actually, I have it on good authority they’re quite nice, because…
I love you Dan! We will do whatever you want! We can continue watching, we can boycott the show in the fall, or we can protest. In fact even if you don’t want us to protest, we will. It isn’t simply that Community won’t be the same without you, it’s that this is completely unacceptable. This is not the way you treat other human beings let alone the genius that youare. Community is the greatest thing to ever be created and it is because of you! I hope that you read everything that tumblr and twitter have written about this, because we all love you and stand with you!!!!
Like, I would rather the show have been canceled after this season than it getting completely fucked without Dan in season 4.
NO ONE UNDERSTANDS THE SHOW LIKE DAN OKAY
YOU CAN’T CHANGE COMMUNITY
YOU CAN’T MAKE IT MORE ACCESSIBLE
UGHHHHHH
This is literally the conversation I had with Maddlyn the other night
They might as well have cancelled Community.
wow
I’m seriously going through my head thinking about whether or not I even care to watch Season 4.
If I stop watching, I got the series as Dan Harmon wanted it. I got Jeff looking up his dad, I got Abed growing as a person, The Darkest Timeline ending, hell, I even got some nice Abed/Annie moments. That’s actually more than I could’ve hoped for.
If I keep watching, it’s probably going to turn into some watered down sack of shit sitcom with little resemblance to what I fell in love with.
So… do I stick around hoping against hope, or do I let go?

No. That is not how this fanbase works, and if you don’t know that —as clearly, NBC and Sony don’t know that— then you are sorely, sorely uninformed.
Community doesn’t work like other sitcoms. It’s not just a show about appealing to the lowest denominator with the most blunt jokes. Community already has its own sense of humor, and it’s not one that everyone gets. We know that, and that’s part of why we love this show with the passion that we do. It’s our kind of humor. Its our kind of show in a sea of shows that are everyone else’s.
The other reason we love this show is the insane, ridiculous, alienating, passionate, nigh-incomprehensible amount of heart that it has. None of us have stuck around this long just because of the jokes. None of us. We stuck because this is a show makes us cry and scream and lose our minds with the characters and the stories that it’s built up, and the building up is the important part.
We are attached and long since have been, and that’s what makes the emotional backbone of this show what it is. Unless the new writers are willing to go all in with doing what’s right by the story and the characters that kept us here, it won’t matter how funny other people find the new episodes. The show would lose us if it lost its heart, and we’re the ones who fought the hardest and the longest to keep this show in the first place.
Now, I know that there’s a chance this isn’t a disaster. Harmon could continue to contribute and keep it on track and/or the new writers could actually do right by the world that’s been set up already. It’s not impossible. I’ve seen Happy Endings, and while it’s not exactly my kind of show, it’s well done for being what it is. If the new guys are willing to adapt, this could go well enough. Some of my favorite shows have gone through similar power changes and survived. Hell, some of my favorite television ever is the third/third-and-half/fourth season of Due South, and that show went through a whole mess of changes.*
I’m not saying that this can’t go well, but it just won’t go well if “Needs to be funnier to more people” is the only direction from which this new run is approached. That is just not how this show works.
